Which CCTV System Should I Purchase?

CCTV systems are one of the most common deterrents a property can install against opportunists; but with so many different options it can be confusing what to choose for the better. Firstly, deciding on what you require from your CCTV is important as each type of system will offer a different level of security.

So what is there available? We at Select Alarm Systems will discuss three common types of CCTV.

A Stand Alone Solution
Remotely Monitored System
Internet Protocol (IP) CCTV

All of these options offer something different in terms of security; but which is the best for your needs?

Stand Alone Solution:

One of the more common systems, this solution can provide you with numerous cameras installed on your premises which are then linked up to a network. This means you can capture any movement that occurs around your premises in your absence and 24/7.

This solution is perfect for smaller organisations that want to monitor their premises but don’t have the budget for any of the advanced security solutions.

Remotely Monitored System:

This system is slightly more advanced and can act as a digital security guard for your property. The cameras are fully functional with monitoring occurring both on the perimeter of a property as well as protecting the building through movement detectors.

Addition to this, in the event of an intruder entering your property, this system will notify the Police and verbally warn the intruders that the key holder and Police have been informed.

IP CCTV:

Some see these types of systems as the future of CCTV due to their advanced ability to transmit data through various networks. As well as this, they also boast of performing better than other forms of CCTV and offering easier installation makes them versatile for many businesses. Not a particularly new product, the reason these cameras have become so advanced within their field is due to the developments in technology overall meaning there abilities can be utilised more as a whole.

You can read more about all of the above systems on our CCTV page, or call us to enquire about any of our services through the various methods on our website – we look forward to hearing from you.

SmokeCloak

FAQ: How Does a Smoke Cloak Work?

The basic principle behind the SmokeCloak system is that if you can’t see it, you can’t steal it!

When an alarm is triggered, the heating element inside the SmokeCloak converts a mixture of water and liquid glycerol into a dense security fog. This harmless dry smoke rapidly fills the room and shields your valuables from view, making them much more difficult to locate.

Creating a visibility of no more than around 30cms, the thick vapour leaves any intruder disorientated and confused. They will be far less able to navigate around your premises and much more likely to head back towards the exit as quickly as they can.

Once you arrive on the scene it only takes 20 minutes to air the room and have it ready for use again, with no lingering smell and no residues. The whole system runs on very little electricity and can be used over and over again with minimal maintenance.

But is it Safe?

Absolutely. The fog released from a SmokeCloak is created from a specially designed glycol formula that is present in household items such as skin creams and toothpaste. The vapour will not damage your IT equipment, electrical machinery or furnishings and it won’t harm anyone who comes into contact with it.

With a SmokeCloak incorporated into your security system you can rely on an instant reaction that will stop a burglary before it’s carried out. None of our SmokeCloak customers have ever suffered further loss after installation, so we would happily recommend it as a worthwhile investment.

What is the law about fire alarms in offices?

Fire alarm systems and extinguishers should always be installed in the workplace. They should be regularly tested and maintained in order to ensure that they will work in the event of a fire hazard. Professional fire alarm testing companies are able to provide the necessary checks and logs to ensure that your company complies with the current government legislations. Failure to follow these rules could be very dangerous in the event of a fire and could cause serious legal problems.

Evacuation Plan

All staff should be briefed on the company’s evacuation procedures. All of the staff should know exactly what to do and where they should gather in the event of a fire. The plans should be displayed in clear view on an office wall so that staff and visitors can view the plans with ease.

Risk Assessment

As a business you are always expected to carry out a substantial risk assessment to make sure that you are adhering to the current rules and regulations. The results of this risk assessment will then make it clear whether or not you will need to carry out changes in order to make the area a safe place. Certain procedures may need to be implemented and a management plan should be carried out in order to ensure a sufficient safety level in the workplace. To carry out a risk assessment you can download the relevant documents from the government fire safety website. The forms provided explain how you can pinpoint potential hazards and evaluate the risks.
